Mak Lang, i will never say goodbye

Wednesday 7 Jamadil Akhir 1432 H = 11th May 2011

My cousin-in law, called at 1130 today....that his mum, whom i addressed as
Mak Lang, passed away Monday night at 1030pm.
shocked !!

Mak Lang had been diagnosed with leukemia, and had been hospitalised since
last Syawal. I didnt know that...

Early April, he called to inform that his mum (Mak Lang) had been discharged from
Hospital Ampang after being treated for about 2 months.

2 days later, on saturday i drove to Mak Lang's apartment in Sri Rampai.
spent some good time there...
she doesn't look sick at all
cheerful...as always

she made some jemput-jemput pisang (banana fritters) and kopi-O
served me... we had mother-daughter talk, full of laughter
alongwith advice

whilst there, i apologised to Mak Lang that i didn't inform her of my
hajj pilgrimage in Nov 2009... though i visited her abt a month before
my departure

i'd gone to the Immigration Dept applying for my passport
since i was in her neighbourhood, i thought i should say 'hi' to her
at that time, my status for hajj is on standby
even my parents do not know about it yet

Mak Lang
we both knew why its inappropriate for us to meet often
but i am glad, i made that visit last April
we plan to meet again, maybe in few months time
but Allah swt, has His plan

i don't regret..
i shall treasure the good times we had
the words of wisdom she shared

"mereka kaya cara mereka...
aku miskin cara aku, tak pernah meminta dari mereka"

...."they are rich, that's their life...
though i'm poor, i never ask anything from them"

"orang takut kalau tahu kita susah
kita selalu senyum, orang tak tahu kita ada masalah"

..."people have fear if they know we in difficulties...always smile
hence they thought we are fine"

Mak Lang, for a strongwill person
very humble
never show sadness
you are always fun to be with
a Mukminat, that even on hospital bed you recite the Al Quran
and also perform your solat-fardhu (mandatory) and solat-sunat (optional)

Mak Lang, may your soul rest in peace
be amongst the Good Believers
may Allah swt, The Most Merciful The Most Compassionate
forgive you
and accept you into Jannah Al Firdaus

Al Fatihah...

My mum and I

Mak was 32 when she gave birth to me, i'm her 7th child.
I am not close to Mak, for some reasons i knew and i do not know.
I know i love her...
some things happened to me, few years ago
makes me closer to Mak

Few weeks ago, Mak became sick...
underwent surgery...
and due to age, some complications arised
She was cared in the ICU for 3 days
and transferred to diferent wards for observations.
On one of the days there, i celebrated my birthday
i relate my birthday to her 'labour pain when she was
having me... and now, on my birthday she is very sick...
O Allah...

I am glad that i was able to care for Mak, to my best ability.
Adapting to her situation
i reminded her to always think of Allah swt and Rasulullah
i whispered to her ears on Al Quran verses..
i talked... bathed and cleaned her,
prepared her for solat,
fed,
massaged
or simply touching her hands,
stayed at hospital...long hours...
morning to evening shifts, or from night to evening...

Mak would stay awake in the middle of the night
or the wee hours
calling some names
or remembering old times..

One of the best moment was her sharing about her life..

She also mentioned many times about her late daughter-in law
(my elder bro's late wife, who passed away on 23.9.2010)..
the nicest things they shared...good moments they had...
may she rest in peace, and be accepted into Jannah..Amin

My mum is a strong person, kind-hearted, never showed any pain
a very private person...
a good servant to Allah swt with her ibadat and prayers, zikrullah

Now that i'm back to my place, i felt guilty leaving her behind
and i saw some tears on her...that sunday afternoon before i left.

nowadays when i say out "Mak"... i welled in tears..
i feel the bonding with Mak
and can't wait for the weekend to go back and
care for her

Syukran to Allah swt
The Most Compassionate
The Most Merciful
Who Listens, Who Understands, Who Feels, Who Sees
Who Answers our prayers and doa'
that Mak is recuperating well
and He gave me the strength to be with Mak
Amin...
